BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Glynn County will participate next week a full-scale, statewide exercise simulation response to a Category 3-4 hurricane that is being coordinated by the Department of Defense and the Georgia National Guard.
Vigilant Guard is a week-long event with multiple state and local government agencies exercising various components. The exercise will simulate a direct hit of a hurricane in coastal Georgia region. Public health issues will also be simulated during the recovery portion of the exercise.
Agencies in Glynn County will participate in a full scale exercise from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, at Mary Ross Waterfront Park. The general public is invited to attend this event and see how an emergency response will operate. Meals Ready to Eat, bottled water, Zika information, and hand sanitizer will be distributed to those who attend.
The following agencies will be participating in the exercise: city of Brunswick Public Works, the Brunswick Police Department, Brunswick Fire Department, Glynn County Sheriff’s Department, Glynn County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, Glynn County Fire Department, Glynn County Public Works, Glynn- Brunswick 911 Communications Center, Glynn County Recreation and Parks Department, Glynn County School Resource Officers, College of Coastal Georgia Police Department, Georgia Department of Public Health, Georgia State Patrol, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, Georgia National Guard and Department of Defense.
