Precautionary boil-water advisory put in place for Brunswick area

Officials say hit-and-run driver broke off hydrant on Baumgardner Road

BRUNSWICK, Georgia – A hit-and-run driver broke off a hydrant on Baumgardner Road, which caused the Brunswick water system to lose pressure in the Exit 29 service area, officials said Tuesday.

A precautionary boil-water advisory was put in place. People in the area were told to boil their water for at least three minutes before using it.

The affected area includes all customers with the Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water & Sewer Commission who are south of Blythe Island and west of Jekyll Island, officials said.

State guidelines require two 24-hour periods of water testing before the advisory can be lifted.

During this period of lost pressure, water also will not be available for fire-suppression use.
