GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A woman who claimed University of Florida quarterback Treon Harris sexually battered her withdrew her complaint Friday, and Harris has been reinstated to the team.
Harris' attorney and the university announced the complaint was withdrawn.
"I am extremely pleased for Treon Harris and his family," attorney Huntley Johnson said.
A spokeswoman for the university said in a statement that the withdrawn complaint means the woman is not pursuing criminal charges against Harris, 19, at this time but maintains the right to do so in the future.
She said UF informed the University Athletic Association that the sexual battery complaint has been withdrawn, and the university is not proceeding with any action.
"We have been notified that the University and legal process is complete," head coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "Treon has been reinstated to the team, but he will not play Saturday (against LSU). This has been a learning experience for everyone involved. Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates."
The UF spokeswoman said the police report will be released when it is available.
"The university always will take swift and decisive action when we have concerns about the safety of our students," the spokeswoman said.
Harris wrote on Instagram: "I wanna thank everybody who supported me through this whole situation with the prayers and the love #TheComeBack #GodIsGreat."
Huntley said in a statement Thursday that "misstatements in the media have painted a picture that is inconsistent with the evidence."
Harris was suspended on Monday amid a UF police investigation into sexual assault accusations.
Johnson tried to dispel reports about Harris' relationship with the woman and what happened early Sunday at an on-campus residence hall. Johnson released a detailed statement defending his client Thursday, saying the woman showed "no indication of any physical or mental trauma" after the alleged sexual assault.
The university said in a statement that Harris was accused of sexually assaulting a female student early Sunday morning in a residence hall on the UF campus.
Harris was never arrested. His attorney said Harris and the woman "knew each other to the extent that they had each other's cellphone numbers and had previously spent time together of their own accord for the purpose of socializing together."
According to the statement, Harris was not inside the accuser's room, and text messages show that the accuser initiated the contact with Harris while he was still in the locker room in Knoxville, Tennessee, for the Gators' football game last weekend.
Johnson said, "We believe the evidence will show the alleged victim was in fact the sexual aggressor with not one, but two young men early last Sunday morning."
Harris' attorney also said they have found no evidence she was under the influence.
"We have previously indicated that we do not believe that Mr. Harris will be arrested or prosecuted," Johnson said Thursday. "That is because of our experiences and the facts of this case. He is not guilty of a crime, and he did not mistreat this young lady in any way that night."
Harris relieved struggling starter Jeff Driskel near the end of the third quarter of Saturday's game at Tennessee and rallied the Gators to a 10-9 victory against the Volunteers.
The woman who accused Harris could be charged with a misdemeanor under Florida law, if police believe she filed a false report.
