Hate crimes against Muslims rise 67 percent, FBI report says Report also shows rise in attacks on transgender people No description found
The FBI released its annual report on hate crimes Tuesday, detailing a 6 percent overall increase in hate crimes. The report showed hate crimes against Muslims rose by an astonishing 67 percent.
In 2015, there were 257 incidents targeting Muslims compared to 154 the year before. That’s the highest number since 2001 when the Sept. 11 terror attacks drove the number to its highest level -- 481 incidents.
Attacks against transgender people have also increased.
According to the FBI, African-Americans were the most targeted victims based on race, and Jews were the most targeted based on religion. The increase in attacks on these groups was smaller than the rise in attacks on Muslims and members of the transgender community.
