High-speed chase in San Marco ends in arrest

Man accused of driving under the influence

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A high speed case in a stolen car ended in an arrest of one man in San Marco Wednesday night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested a man who is accused of driving under the influence and speeding 85 miles per hour through the San Marco area.

Police said they were lucky no one was injured since a lot people walk in that area.

The chase started on Emerson Street and police followed the driver to Hendricks Avenue. Police conducted a PIT maneuver to force the man stop, according to JSO.

The chase lasted about five minutes.

Officers said the car the man was driving was stolen on Monday.

The man was arrested and charged with grand theft auto, driving under the influence, and possession of marijuana.

The man's name and age were not immediately released.

Officers said if you are ever on the road when a pursuit is in progress -- make sure you pull over out of the way.

New4Jax talked to a woman who witnessed the chase.

"It's just crazy you never know-- you're just standing underneath the light just waiting for it to turn green and out of no where all of this just happens and just pray and thank god it didn't hit our car," said Marie Cadet.
