106 juveniles shot in less than 2 years in Duval County

Interactive map shows where shootings happened around Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – More than 100 teens and children were shot in Jacksonville in the last two years.

The News4Jax I-TEAM has spent months compiling data provided by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office that breaks down where all those shootings took place around the city.

In Duval County, 106 juveniles -- under 18 years old -- were shot from the beginning of 2015 through September 2016. In the same time frame, 628 adults were shot around Jacksonville.

Those include deadly shootings and shootings with survivors. The numbers don't include suicides or mental health incidents.

Based on the data, the most violent ZIP code in the city by far is 32209. There were 186 shootings in that one Northside ZIP code during our search parameters. That's 166 adults and 20 juveniles.

A 17-year-old was one of two people killed in a double shooting on New Year's Day in the 32206 ZIP code.

The data from police shows there were 56 shootings in that ZIP code from January 2015 to September 2016, and the number of juveniles shot increased from five in 2015 to seven before the end of last year.

The I-TEAM created a color-coded interactive ZIP code map that shows the most dangerous zones around the city.

The darkest red is 32209. The five next most dangerous ZIP codes, including 32206, are colored peach. They are concentrated in the metro area in the Northside and Westside.

Conversely, the safest areas are Mandarin, San Jose, and the Beaches.
