Man's body found in St. Johns River

People reported hearing man falling in Saturday night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police divers found a man's body Sunday morning in the St. Johns River near 1100 Campbell Ave.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said there was no trauma to the body and no foul play is suspected.

People reported hearing someone fall in the water Saturday night, according to police. Investigators said that person was a man about 29 years old and was in the area visiting friends.

Detectives said people there tried to search for him, as did Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department and police, but they were unsuccessful. Friends of the man who fell in the river told police they were not sure if he could swim.

Police still cannot confirm that the man who fell in the river Saturday night is the same person found Sunday morning. They have not released his name.

A homicide detective said it appears his death was an accident.

Police said there is no word on what tide and water conditions were at the time, or if drugs or alcohol were involved. Investigators said toxicology tests and an autopsy will be performed.
