In the time the sheriff has been gone, 10 days of searching have passed with no sign of 21-month old Lonzie Barton.

Today, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced major scaling back in the search, but still the investigation continues.

News4Jax's crime and safety expert Gil Smith says this is something the sheriff's office will likely take their time on.

There are many things they're keeping close to the vest.

Smith says these are the things they'll include in this review.

One thing the sheriff's office wants everyone to know, just because this search scaled back, doesn't mean they're cutting back on the investigation.

For days, the parking lot at Baker Skinner park was filled with police cars and a mobile command unit, now it is empty.

A somber reminder after long days and hours of searching, Lonzie Barton is still missing...and the extensive search to find him is at a standstill.

"Tomorrow, we'll sit down and do an exhaustive review of everything that's happened in the past week. Not just for me but the entire process and we'll be hyper critical of what we've done," said Sheriff Mike Williams.

Sheriff Williams didn't go into specifics, but our crime and Safety Expert Gil Smith says a review like this is not something police will wrap up quickly.

"They'll  gather all of this, put it together, and see if they will be able to charge anyone of a crime. So they'll take that all, review it all, take it to the state attorney's office and see if they have anything that anyone can be charged with," said Smith.

With about 400 leads and a push to assemble the best case possible, Smith says this review will take time.

There are many factors the public isn't aware of yet.

Police have also said they're cutting back on news conferences, but will update the public when there are big developments.
