Officer injured in Arlington Expressway accident

Eastbound lane of Arlington Expressway at Townsend Boulevard closed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An detective is hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle while talking to a motorist on Arlington Expressway on Wednesday morning. The service road and one eastbound lane of Arlington Expressway were closed until about 11:30 a.m.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the officer was outside an unmarked police pickup truck before 9 a.m. making contact with a driver in a white work van when a pest control truck struck the pickup, which knocked Officer Adam Blinn into a light pole.

Initially Blinn's injuries were thought to be significant, but JSO spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Why Blynn and a second detective in the undercover police vehicle had stopped the vehicle on the side of the road was not known. Police are investigating whether the driver who struck the stopped vehicle would face charges.
