Officer, driver hospitalized after crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An SUV hit a Jacksonville officer's cruiser, Saturday night, leaving the officer and driver with minor injuries, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers were already investigating an ATV crash at Myrtle Avenue between 9th and 10th streets at about 8:30 p.m. when a cruiser blocking a road was struck by an older SUV.

The police officer and the driver of the SUV were both taken to UF Health Jacksonville with minor injuries. Neither of their names were released.

It is not known how fast the SUV was going or if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

Consequences could vary from a civil citation to criminal charges, depending on the results of the investigation.
