JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The driver of a semitruck died after it went off an overpass and crashed onto the railroad tracks below at Pickettville Road.

Traffic is starting to flow as one lane of Interstate 295 North at Commonwealth is now back open.

The impact damaged the tracks and the driver was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

The driver was later pronounced dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP, the driver was a 61-year-old man from Willis, Texas.

CSX confirmed to News4JAX that it owns the track that was damaged.

“I can confirm that it is CSX track, but it’s not a mainline or passenger route. It’s an industry track that serves local businesses. Florida Highway Patrol responded and is investigating the incident. CSX personnel are on-site to ensure that they can safely access the scene to conduct their investigation and safely remove the truck. A CSX track team is staged and ready to complete track repairs once the investigation and clean-up is complete,” a CSX spokesperson said.
