JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who was driving in a February single-car crash on Philips Highway that killed his passenger has been charged with DUI homicide by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said a Nissan Maxima, driven by Anthony Jones, 39, was headed north near J. Turner Butler Boulevard just after 2 a.m. Feb. 14 when it left the road and collided with a road sign pole and utility pole. James Jackson III, 31, was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

Jones was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition, but recovered from his injuries.
Jones was arrested Tuesday and ordered held on $77,000 bond. In addition to DUI homicide charge, Jones was charged with traffic homicide and DUI property damage.
