JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 59-year-old man was charged with manslaughter after a teenager was shot in the head and died late Saturday night in the man's apartment on East 15th Street.

Frank Cameron told police he accidentally told 19-year-old Marvin Smith Jr., who was helping him figure out how to use the safety on a handgun, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. When officers arrived just after 10 p.m., Cameron was performing CPR on Smith, but he was dead when paramedics arrived..

Cameron told police he got the gun for protection because of crime in the Eastside.

Neighbors were saddened to hear of the shooting, then angry when they found out it was an accident.

"That's the reason you put the guns down. Everything going be an accident. That's sad," said Shawn Smith.
