21-year-old woman killed in St. Augustine crash

Deputies say driver struck power pole, then tree

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in St. Augustine early Wednesday morning, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim was identified as Sophia Lane Osenbach, 21, of St. Augustine.

Deputies said the Volkswagen Golf was heading westbound on County Road 214 near Ryan Road about 2:30 a.m. when it drifted off the roadway and struck a power pole, breaking it. The vehicle continued on and hit a large tree.

Osenbach was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. 

Investigator said the Golf was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash. 

Florida Power and Light reported the crash caused a power outage that affected 24 homes in the area.
