PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A log truck in Putnam County crashed into a slow-moving train Thursday, spilling logs along County Road 20A before running into a power pole.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a CSX train was backing slowly across CR-20A when the log truck, driven by Monroe Tobia, from Ocala, Florida, approached the train traveling too fast to stop.

Troopers said Tobia tried to stop the truck and overcorrected in the process, causing the truck to begin to tip over.

The truck smashed into the third car of the train and at the same time, the logs in the back of the truck spilled out, crashing into the second car that the train was pulling, causing the car to become detached from the train, reports said.

Officials said that after smashing into the train, the truck kept going and eventually stopped after it crashed into a power pole.

Tobia was transported to UF Health Gainesville, where he was treated for minor injuries.
