William Berkowitz, 19, and his newly married wife Heather Cardentey, 40, got into an altercation, police said.

The wife felt that the husband was going to attack her, so she pulled a rifle on him. Police said he then tried to take it away from her, and the rifle discharged and hit him in the leg.

Berkowitz suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still determining if charges will be filed.

The Violent Crimes Taskforce will be conducting interviews and determine whether the shooting was self-defense.

Two kids were in the home at the time, but were not near the shooting, according to JSO.

Police are trying to get the kids to a family member, otherwise they will be taken into DCF custody.
