JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 28-year-old Jacksonville man was convicted Thursday afternoon on charges of second-degree attempted murder, shooting or throwing deadly missiles, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In November, Antoine Simms and his girlfriend were in the Chick-fil-A drive-through on Philips Highway when an altercation occurred between him and the driver of another car.

The argument began after the driver pulled in front of Simms in the drive-through line. Things quickly escalated once Simms pulled out a gun and began shooting at the victim.

Simms and his girlfriend then fled the scene. The victim was not struck by gunfire, but his vehicle was.

Simms now faces up to life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Oct. 20.
