Man accused of sexually abusing child

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A 27-year-old Lake City man was arrested early Monday morning in connection with the sexual battery of a child.

Bruce Henderson was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on one count of sexual battery on a victim younger than 12. His bond was set at $200,000.

The investigated began just after 3 a.m. when Lake City Medical Center notified deputies it was treating a child suspected of being a victim of a sexual battery.

Deputies said the parent had left the child in the care of an adult while at work, and when the parent returned the child complained of an injury. The parent took the child to the hospital to be checked and it was revealed the injury was consistent with sexual abuse, deputies said.

Henderson was questioned and arrested.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office victim advocate is assisting the family and the Child Protection Team working with the detectives as the investigation continues.
