Man dies after shooting at Whispering Oaks Apartments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex on Atlantic Boulevard that left a young Hispanic man dead.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday neighbors at the Whispering Oaks Apartments called 911 because they heard gunfire. When the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrived, fire rescue was already treating the victim. Rescue personnel took him to the hospital, where he later died.

Homicide detectives have not been able to identify the victim. They are questioning several people in connection with the shooting. Officers tell News4Jax those people are cooperating with the investigation.

Police have not recovered the gun that was used. They are also trying to figure out what led to the shooting.
