According to deputies, the victim, 36-year-old Van S. Gourdine, had been searching for his ex-girlfriend for several days, threatening that he would hurt her if he found her.
Gourdine thought she was staying at the motel and tried to break into the room he thought she was staying in.
The person who was staying in the room pulled out a gun and shot and killed Gourdine.
Detectives said they think the shooting was justified, but are still investigating.
