Police identified the man as 35-year-old Rolando Valencia and said he lived at the complex.
News4Jax spoke to a man who's lived at the complex for six months and said it's normally quiet in that area.
"I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life. It's never been an issue as far as safety is concerned. It's a pretty quiet neighborhood. Usually good people. I thought it was an elderly community around here but I don't know," said Joshua Durdin.
A neighborhood watch sign was seen in the complex and Durdin said everybody looks out for one another there.
"As long as I've lived here, that hasn't been commotion or anything like that. It's really surprising to see something like this happen here. I don't know what happened but I don't really want to go to sleep until I find out honestly because I have my baby in there sleeping," said Durdin.
JSO is investigating what led up to the man's death and don't have a suspect description.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
