According to traffic homicide investigators, one vehicle was going on West 30th Street when it was hit by a southbound vehicle on Marlo Street that did not stop at for the stop sign at the intersection. The crash caused the first car to spin out of control and hit the pedestrian on the sidewalk.

Officers said the man was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he later died.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. JSO said it is not ruling out drugs and alcohol as a factor in the accident.

Police did not release the name of the victim Thursday night, but said he is well known in the area and was often seen waving to cars as they passed by.
