Man sentenced to prison for conspiracy to defraud U.S.

Man also sentenced for theft of government funds, aggravated identity theft

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man has been sentenced for conspiracy to defraud the United States, theft of government funds and aggravated identity theft, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Lorne Jordan was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison. The U.S. Attorney's Office said he was also ordered to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service in the amount of $120,713.09.

The IRS received information that Jordan possessed a large amount of U.S. Treasury checks and needed assistance in cashing them, according to court documents.

Over a series of several meetings, Jordan provided more than 25 Treasury checks that totaled more than $70,000 to an undercover agent for cashing, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. He said that he previously worked with a postal employee to cash additional Treasury checks he obtained.

Agents executed a search warrant Jan. 13 at Jordan's home and found personal identification information of at least 100 people, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Jordan pleaded guilty April 15.
