Man, woman found dead in apartment

JSO investigating possible double-murder or murder-suicide

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating the death of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside an Arlington apartment early Wednesday morning.

Around 7:50 a.m. officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to Reserve at Water's Inlet Apartments, located on 6100 Arlington Expressway, in reference to two bodies found.

When officers arrived, they found a man and woman dead inside their apartment with gunshot wounds. On Thursday, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office identified the victims of the double homicide as 20-year-old Dean Altizer Jr. and 22-year-old Danyelle Ward (pictured).

Danyelle Nicole Ward, 22, was found dead in her apartment in Arlington on Wednesday.

"There appears to be forced entry into the apartment. There is some history between the two of them. We are trying to determine if it's a double-murder or a murder-suicide," said Sgt. Jay Farhat.

Donald Kitchen lives in the complex and knew the two. He said they fought constantly.

"I might be down there visiting one of my friends, and they come out fighting, but then an hour later they're on the motorcycle together hugging up like nothing happened," Kitchen said.

Police were contacted after family members went to check on the man and woman and discovered their bodies in the apartment.

Farhat said they are still in the early stages of the investigation, but said the man and woman were dating and living together for over a year.

"We're still trying to determine exactly the sequence of events and any potential witnesses that may have seen or heard anything," said Farhat.

Police have not released any details on the weapon that may have been used.

Neighbors did report hearing gunshots Tuesday. Police do not yet know exactly how many shots were fired.

The names of the man and woman found dead are not yet being released.

Wednesday afternoon, JSO investigators found a third body in a separate apartment in the complex, but police said it was a natural death and unrelated to the double homicide case.
