Johnnie Carter died July 6 last year when he was shot near his Lakeshore home. Police are still searching for his killer.
Carter's mother, Erica Carter -- along with others -- used Saturday's memorial to bring awareness to unsolved murders. She said she feels her son's case hasn't received enough attention and she wants the shooter off the streets.
"There's been a lot of support from my employers, family and friends, but the community needs to step up and do something," Erica Carter said. "They need to start speaking up. They need to stop keeping this code of silence that they're keeping."
Investigators said there appeared to be some sort of altercation leading up to the shooting.
Anyone with information should call police.
