JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A homeowner was shot and killed Monday afternoon on the Northside after he walked in on a burglary, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Jay Farhat said Kyle Simpson, 50, appeared to have just returned to his home on Native Dancer Court about 2:30 p.m. and was going inside the house when he walked in on two black males wearing dark clothing burglarizing his home.
The two shot Simpson, left him for dead and drove away in a 2010 black Ford Escape, police said.
Surveillance video from a neighbor's home appears to show the suspects' SUV leaving the home after the shooting.

"All of a sudden, I heard what sounded like shots, you know, 'bang, bang, bang, bang,' about four or five shots," said Linda Kienker, who lives nearby. "I'm still shaking. I mean, I just can't believe it happened in this neighborhood. It's a wonderful neighborhood and people look out for each other, at least, we try to."
Farhat said it's possible the two suspects in the shooting were also involved in other burglaries Sunday and Monday afternoon on the Northside. The descriptions of the men and the vehicle matched in several cases, and a weapon was seen in at least one other incident, Farhat said.
Several victims in the other reported burglaries said they also confronted the suspects.
"I worry about the crime. It's getting more and more violent in Jacksonville. And to tell you the truth, I have been thinking about just moving back to Massachusetts. I love it here, but I'm starting to get a little nervous about these things," Kienker said.
Chris Beck, who lives in the neighborhood, said he was stunned by the "terrible" deadly shooting.
"I think it's horrible that it's come to this. I can't believe the people would walk into your home and just take your things, and once they're done taking your things, you walk in and they just kill you too," he said. "You just don't think that when you come home from work that something like this is going to happen to you. So, I'm just in shock."
The two suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, Farhat said. It's possible the two were skipping school, but it's unclear how old they are, he said.
Jimmy Speakman, who also lives nearby, said he hopes police catch them soon, but will remain vigilant until then.
"We keep the doors locked at night. We keep the garage door to go inside the house locked at night. And, I mean, I guess that's everything. You can't do nothing else," Speakman said.
