Police: Man shot, killed outside Clay County home

Suspected shooter also shot in face, taken to hospital

LAKE ASBURY, Fla. – A 48-year-old man was shot and killed outside his Lake Asbury home Friday night, the Clay County Sheriff's Office said.

The suspected shooter was also shot and was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville for what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his face, according to police.

Deputies were called to a home on Silverado Circle around 7:44 p.m. Friday regarding a shooting incident. When deputies arrived, they found Paul Trossevin dead near the front steps of the home.

They also found the suspected shooter, 47-year-old Arthur Anthony Grossie, outside the home with a gunshot wound.

According to deputies, Trossevin and Grossie, who lives in Jacksonville, were involved in an argument over the phone earlier in the evening Friday.

"The suspect and the victim were business partners for approximately the last two years," said Lt. Wayne McKinney of the CCSO robbery-homicide unit. "They've recently sold their business, and they were having some conflict over the business venture that they were involved in."

McKinney said the business involved installing garage doors.

McKinney said after the telephone argument, Grossie came to Trossevin's home on Silverado Circle in a work van, which has since been seized by police. Trossevin, who was inside the home with his wife and 21-year-old daughter, opened the door and got into another verbal altercation with Grossie just outside the front door, according to police.

Trossevin's wife told police she heard a gunshot and went to check on what was happening, then she heard a second and third shot.

She said she opened the front door and Trossevin was lying on the ground just outside the door. Grossie was falling to the ground in the front yard, she said.

McKinney said Trossevin's wife and daughter were understandably traumatized by the shooting.

"They seem to be handling it as expected," he said. "(They are) very upset for their loved one that they lost."

McKinney said a weapon was recovered at the scene but declined to give details because the investigation is ongoing. He said investigators will be processing the scene until the early morning hours, but they are allowing residents on Silverado Circle to return to their homes.

Deputies had blocked off a large portion of the home's Lake Asbury neighborhood following the incident.

Investigators said hospital officials told them Grossie, who has three previous misdemeanor arrests, has severe facial wounds, but he is expected to recover, and there appears to be no brain injury.
