Police: Man found dead in gas station bathroom

Foul play not suspected

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Police said they do not suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found Friday morning in the bathroom of a BP gas station on Park Avenue near Wells Road.

Officers with the Orange Park Police Department responded to the gas station on Park Avenue around 4:30 a.m. after the clerk called and asked for a welfare check.

The clerk told police a man, whose name has not been released, went into the restroom at the store and did not come back out, and she was concerned.

Officers had to pry open the locked bathroom door and found the man unconscious and not breathing.

Police and fire personnel tried to revive the man, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, officers said.

The man's body was taken to the Duval County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The gas station reopened after being blocked off for several hours.

Police towed away a car believed to belong to the man.
