JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Justina Road Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday after a reported shooting at a nearby apartment complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call of a person shot at 2929 Justina Road at the Caroline Apartments.

Officers found a victim who was transported by Jacksonville Fire Rescue to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The apartment complex was roped off, a helicopter could be seen flying overhead and K-9 units were on scene on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said detectives have taken over the investigation, which is ongoing.
Davon Steele said his 4-year-old daughter was on the playground at the elementary school and heard the shooting. He said teachers told the children to run inside. Later, the students were released to their families one at a time, which is a different procedure than usual, Steele said.
