JACKOSNVILLE, Fla. – A 17-year-old girl is in life-threatening condition after being found with gunshot wounds in Northwest Jacksonville early Tuesday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

According to JSO's "calls for service" website, police were dispatched to 7700 Garden Street, near Imeson Road, in reference to a person shot around 2:30 a.m.

Police said a person who lived in the area was driving home from work and found the teen with a gunshot wound on the side of the roadway and called for help.

The teen was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the victim does not live in the area, and they are still trying to determine how the victim got to that location.

"At this point, we don't know," said Sgt. Steve Zona. "We haven't had the chance to speak with her yet, and there were no witnesses at the scene other than the resident that lived in the area that found her on the side of the road."

Police have not released any information about what led to the shooting or possible suspects at this time.
