Runners may receive refund after 'Run or Dye' Daytona Beach race canceled

More than 700 lost money after race canceled last week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After contacting the company as well as the Better Business Bureau complaining, some runners are receiving an email from Viral Events -- the company affiliated with "Run or Dye" -- saying their money will be refunded within 10 to 14 days.

The company is encouraging participants who did not receive an email to contact the company directly to get their money back.

Organizers with Run or Dye canceled their Daytona Beach event set for September after more than 700 people signed up, according to communications director Katy Langton.

Langton said the 5k, which showers runners in powdered dye, did not have the necessary number of runners signed up for the company to break even, so it canceled the race last week.

About $20,000 in registration fees have been collected so far, according to Langton.
