Sailor arrested in Jacksonville Beach shooting

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – An active duty sailor who was wanted in connection with the shooting of another man in Jacksonville Beach on Sept. 6 turned him self in to police Wednesday.

Cordaro Hilton-Washington is charged with attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of 29-year-old Wleh Nimely.

The Camden County Sheriff's Office said it believes Hilton-Washington shot Nimely multiple times at close range following an incident at a 7-Eleven on 3rd Street North in Jacksonville Beach.

After authorities made contact with Hilton-Washington through a third party, he agreed to surrender to deputies at the Kings Bay Submarine Base in St. Marys, Georgia. He was booked into the Camden County jail and will await extradition to Duval County.

On Friday, Lamonte Arrington, 24, was arrested in Baltimore, Maryland, in connection with the shooting. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder and accessory after the fact.

Police said Nimely was shot multiple times at about 10:35 p.m. in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue North. He was flown to a hospital and is now in stable condition and recovering from his injuries.
