Semi catches fire at Westside gas station

Firefighters put out flames before they reached gas pumps

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A tractor-trailer went up in flames Monday night, forcing a Westside gas station to close while firefighters worked to keep the situation from exploding into something more dangerous.

Shane Story's Peterbuilt big rig caught fire at the BP station on Lane Avenue around 7 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the flames before the fire spread to nearby gas pumps.

Story said he's lost his livelihood., but not his faith.

"I'm an independent -- I have one truck, and trader and I drive it myself. I guess what we'll have to do now is sit back and look at things and figure out what the good Lord wants us to do from here," Story said. "And you know, maybe he's got it in his plan that we'll have something bigger and better, and you'll see me in something nicer next week."

Story was staying at a nearby motel and was eating dinner when the fire broke out. Officials have not said what caused the fire.
