Wreck of 2 semis blocks I-95 SB in Nassau County

Agriculture Interdiction ramp being used as detour near Florida-Georgia line

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – All lanes of Interstate 95 southbound were closed just south of the Florida-Georgia line for several hours Friday morning after one big rig rear ended another.

Just before 5:30 a.m. the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash with injuries on I-95 southbound in Nassau County.

Troopers said two big rigs collided on the highway and one of the drivers was hospitalized.

Troopers say a FedEx tractor-trailer, driven by 45-year-old Michael Mackey, rear-ended a FreshPoint produce rig, driven by 47-year-old C. J. Williams. The FedEx tractor-trailer then swerved, and crashed into the center guard rail.

Mackey was transported to Nassau Hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to be okay, according to FHP. Williams suffered minor injuries.

According to the FHP report, Mackey will be charged with careless driving.

Southbound traffic was detoured through the agricultural truck inspection lot until about 9:30 a.m.
