ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Officials were called to Interstate 75 at mile marker 381, where a semi-truck drove off the roadway and into the waters of Paynes Prairie Thursday night.
Alachua deputies said rescue personnel were trying to reach the cab of the truck to get to the driver, Antoine Atwater, 31, of Thomaston, Georgia, while other officials stood guard, watching for gators.

Atwater was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, Sharaine Furlow, 25, of Thomaston, Georgia, was uninjured in the crash.
