St. Johns County woman arrested on burglary, grand theft charges

Woman attempted to buy items, reserve motel room with stolen card, deputies say

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A woman was arrested Saturday on charges including burglary to a vehicle and grand theft, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

A couple discovered a burglary to their vehicle while it was parked in the driveway of their home in the 1200 block of Tangerine Drive, deputies said. A backpack containing numerous items along with credit and ID cards was reported stolen.

Deputies said the following day a woman was seen attempting to buy items at a convenience store and reserve a motel room in Duval County, but the card was declined.

Surveillance video captured the woman when she attempted to use the card. The Sheriff's Office said through investigative techniques, deputies were able to identify her as Ashia Lindo, 19.

Lindo was also seen discarding the victim's backpack in Duval County, which was recovered along with other alleged stolen items from other burglaries, deputies said. Additional charges were pending.

Deputies said Lindo remained in the St. Johns County Jail on bonds totaling $10,000.
