Teens thrown from truck after apparent hit-and-run

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville police are looking for anyone who has any information about an apparent hit-and-run.

Officers responded to West Newberry Road Friday night after they got a report of two suspicious people on the sidewalk, in front of a pond at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

Mark Ray, 19, and Emery Enneking, 18, were riding in the back of a pickup and some point they were thrown from it, according to investigators.

Police said they landed on the pavement. Ray was unresponsive and suffered head and neck trauma. Enneking suffered multiple lacerations and contusions to his upper body and head.

Both were taken to UF Health. Ray is currently in a coma with a broken vertebra and brain swelling and bleeding that is causing seizures.

Police said it does not appear Enneking suffered major injuries.

Police said not much is know about the pickup the teens were riding in.

Investigators said Enneking would not provide assistance with identifying the truck or driver.
