Thousands attend Duval County School Choice Expo

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Just under 18,000 people attended the 2017 School Choice Expo on Saturday, according to Duval County schools.

The annual event takes place at the the Prime Osborn Convention Center. It helps parents take advantage of the district's open enrollment plan by showcasing all the educational options the district has to offer.

That includes magnet programs, career academies, charter schools, acceleration programs and choice schools for all grade levels.

"It's a true marketplace," School Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti said. "What you see here is no different than a consumer going to a Walmart or Target and trying to find the best product."

Over the next few weeks parents will be visiting school campuses, going on school tours and completing applications for the 2017-18 school year.

For the current school year, more than 40 percent of students are in some form of transfer program.
