Bolles' Corky Rogers returns to the sidelines against his alma mater

The former Lee H.S. coach and player returned for the first time since 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After his current team and his former team finished their preseason exhibition game on Friday night, the Lee High School coaching staff gave Bolles head coach Corky Rogers a shirt that read: "Once A General, Always A General."

When you have been associated with a school for more than 20 years, that couldn't be more true.

Rogers' current team, Bolles fell to his former team 28-14 in a preseason kickoff classic on Friday night.  Mac Jones connected with Amari Terry for the games first score in the 2nd quarter.  Lee quarterback Derrick Jones answered with a touchdown pass to Teddy Ingram to tie the game at 7 before going on to win.

Over the summer, it looked like Rogers wouldn't even be on the sidelines at all this season.  On vacation in North Carolina in June, the 72-year old fell ill on a golf course and was rushed to a local hospital.  He was transferred to the Mayo Clinic later in the week where he was eventually released.

Rogers graduated from Lee High School in 1961 and returned 12 years later to coach their football team.  For the next 16 seasons, Rogers led the Generals to 10 straight playoff appearances.

In 1989 Rogers accepted the head coaching job at Bolles and the rest is history to the tune of a 313-45 record with 10 state championships and 5 runner-ups.

Rogers and the Bulldogs begin the regular season on Friday, August 26th at 8A powerhouse Lake Mary.
