Going behind-the-scenes of 2017 ROAR calendar shoot

Shooting on location in Atlantic Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, downtown Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s that time again! The ROAR of the Jaguars calendar photo shoot.

This year, the Jaguars decided to keep it local and shoot in the Jacksonville area in August. Last year, you may remember, I went with the ladies in the calendar to shoot in Bimini, Bahamas.

"It does feel different, this year. We have different sponsors, different location, it’s in Jacksonville, our beautiful home town," second-year ROAR cheerleader Allison said.

We asked about some of the preparations the ROAR ladies do before the photo shoot.

"You really just prepare the week before and make sure you’re in shape and feeling good and prepping everything, really it’s not that hard," Kendall said. "We are having fun, it’s just a matter of waking up in the morning and being awake."

On Day 1 of shooting, we were on location at One Ocean Hotel in Atlantic Beach.

First was hair and makeup, then lights, camera, action!

ROAR cheerleader, Taylor, was not only excited for the photo shoot, but also being apart of the team for her fourth year.

"It’s definitely nerve wracking every year.  We do auditions and everyone is required to re-audition. It’s such a neat experience though," Taylor said while getting her makeup done. "Every year is different. There is always a new group of amazing and talented women. It’s a really exciting process."

Speaking of makeup, professional makeup artist Lydia Smith was there to make sure the ladies looked fierce for the camera.

"So for a shoot like this it will be beachy. With that we want to incorporate bronze colors and natural lighting," Smith said. "So when you do highlight and contour it’s perfect every angle."

Five girls posed for pictures in various locations inside and outside the hotel.

"I feel so glamorous, like a celebrity over here it’s nice," second-year ROAR cheerleader Kendall said. "It’s like a day in the life."

Day 1 wrapped up in the afternoon, and the remaining seven girls arrived the next morning for makeup and hair at 5 a.m., like the day before.

The trick is to be ready before sunrise.

"Lots of beauty rest for sure, I had to go to sleep like a grandma last night, bright and early," Kendall said.

All seven posed at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.

Some had sunrise shots, and others posed inside the hotel’s courtyard.

"It’s been a really great experience, just having local artists be able to support the ROAR," Smith said. "We did it last year and it's just nice to support Jacksonville area."

The bulk of the last day of shooting was in the Downtown Jacksonville area, with sunrise and sunset shots taken.

EverBank Field was one location, where some of the girls posed on Jaguars themed motorcycles.
