2 killed in wrong-way crash on I-95

FHP says neither driver in head-on collision was wearing seat belt

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All lanes of Interstate 95 northbound in San Marco reopened Saturday morning, nearly five hours after two men were killed in a head-on crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Levi Walter, 40, of Vancouver, Washington, was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck south in a northbound lane of I-95 south of the Main Street Bridge just after 1 a.m. when he struck a Ford Econoline van driven by Robert Upson, 41, of Jacksonville.

Upson's van hit a concrete barrier and overturned. He died at the scene. Walter was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died.

According to the FHP report, neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Blood alcohol tests were conducted on both drivers.
