FHP wants aggressive drivers to think twice

Troopers will be looking for, ticketing aggressive drivers through March 9

Commercial vehicle enforcement troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are looking for aggressive drivers on Florida’s roads through March 9.

The search is part of a safety campaign called Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks and will target drivers who speed, follow too closely or make unsafe lane changes.

The campaign is intended to reduce commercial motor vehicle related crashes and educate motorists about safety. FHP offers these tips for driving around large trucks:

  • Stay out of blind spots. Large trucks have blind spots known as “No Zones.”
  • Pass trucks on the left side for maximum visibility.
  • Maintain a constant speed.
  • Do not cut trucks off. Be sure to leave plenty of room when you pull in front of a truck, as they cannot stop as quickly as cars.
  • Be patient around larger vehicles that are traveling slower than you.
  • Do not drive distracted. Anything that takes your full attention off the road -- such as texting, changing the radio station, or talking to passengers -- could be deadly.
