Wet conditions for morning commute

Georgia seeing a break but heavy rain covers Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two potential rounds of severe weather this morning prompt a Weather Authority Alert Day.  The first line of rain should pass after the morning commute.  The second round of rain is less likely to pack a punch, but any stronger storms would possibly occur between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Between these two threats, there maybe hours of sunshine, warm and breezy conditions with just a few showers.

Storms have backed off in SE Georgia and focus over northeast Florida. Heavy rain will cover areas south of I-10 down to Gainesville and St. Augustine. Rain tapers off after 8 a.m.

Rain totals of a half inch around Jacksonville up 1 inch has fallen as of 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. As the front passes a second line of rain early this afternoon will add less rain.

Weather analysis: The Weather Authority is watching a warm front lift northward through Georgia as a low pressure lifts northward to Tennessee today. Rain is in advance of a front that will dry us out this afternoon. Gusty west winds will boost temps into the 80s.

Record Heat: Today we may tie a record of 83 set on this date last year. This would come after yesterdays record of 85! Monday was the hottest December day ever on record. Cool air arrives tonight.
