Fleming Island woman killed in rear-end crash on US 17

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 28-year-old woman from Fleming Island died Sunday morning following a crash on U.S. 17 in Clay County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the woman was driving an SUV south on U.S. 17 near Pace Island Trace when she rear-ended into a pickup truck that was stopped at a traffic light.

According to the crash report, the collision caused the SUV to overturn multiple times.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 38-year-old man from Hilliard, was not injured.

According to FHP’s current traffic report, all southbound lanes of U.S. 17 at Pace Island Trace, have reopened after being blocked for hours.
