71-year-old crossing highway in golf cart hit, killed in crash with SUV: FHP

CRESCENT CITY, Fla. – A 71-year-old Crescent City man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the golf cart he was in was struck by an SUV as he was crossing U.S. 17 at Euclid Avenue in Putnam County, troopers said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, just before 3 p.m. the man in the golf cart began crossing US 17 from Euclid Avenue, which was controlled by a stop sign, and drove into the path of the SUV, which was headed northbound on US 17.

The SUV hit the passenger side of the golf cart. The man died from his injuries.

The report said the 38-year-old Crescent City woman driving the SUV suffered minor injuries, along with a 16-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy in the SUV. All three were wearing seat belts or were in child restraints, the report said.
