Girl donates to Wolfson Children's Hospital

Wanted to empty piggy bank to give to needy kids

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 13-year-old girl literally wants to give all she has to help children in need. During last week's Wolfson Children's telethon, she decided to donate.

She told her parents she wanted to give all the money in her piggy bank to help those kids. Aniya Crump joined us on The Morning Show and said she got the idea through social media.

"I saw on Instagram someone was doing it and I loved how they were doing it and I wanted to do it to," Crump said. She said she'd been saving the money since last year.

She donated $11.53 from change in her piggy bank. Her dad also wrote a check for the same amount to match her donation.

Crump says she hopes her donation will go toward curing cancer.

Last week's telethon helped raise about $52,020.53 in the annual Children's Challenge. That surpassed this year's goal of $50,000.  The odd amount? That was a result of Crump's donation of $11.53.

Karen Wolfson, who helped us with our telethon, says Crump's donation is touching. She said it came at the end of the night when the hospital hadn't reached its goal yet.

If you still want to donate, it's not too late. You can always give money on the Wolfson Children's Challenge website.

The Wolfson Children's Challenge is Saturday, Jan. 30. There are a variety of races for runners. They will all start and end at Bragan Field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

There will also be many activities, including games, vendors and performances. Those are all free.
