JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman and her friends spread holiday cheer Sunday in remembrance of terrible tragedy nearly two years ago.
In March 2010, 16-year-old Tiphne Hollis was shot and killed when someone in a passing car fired on her car. Police still have not charged anyone with the crime.
In hopes of carrying on her daughter's legacy, Shanda Hollis visited the homes of several families on Christmas dropping off gifts -- the act of kindness she said her daughter would be proud of.
Hollis said she loves seeing children smile on Christmas because it reminds her of her own kids.
"I miss my baby so much. It just made me think about my three kids," she said. "Now I have two since she's gone and I know she's with me and she's seeing everything that I'm doing."
Along with a group of friends, this is the second year Hollis has delivered presents to families who need a little extra help on Christmas. One of the recipients, Marquita Wilkes, said she's thankful for Hollis' good will toward her children and family, and the lasting impression the slain 16-year-old left behind.
"I appreciate it greatly and if it weren't for her they wouldn't have a lot of things they did have today," Wilkes said.
