JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's described as the school's biggest and broadest fundraising effort ever.
Jacksonville University has now launched an $85 million campaign. The school is calling the initiative "ASPIRE" and hopes to wrap it up by the end of 2016.

The university is including some of its fundraising gifts dating back to 2009 in this campaign, so it has already raised more than $43 million.
Some of the money will be used for new buildings, while some will be used to grow the university in other ways.
"This is an opportunity for us to go broadly across scholarships and academics, the College of Health Sciences, student life and campus enhancement, faculty support, athletics, and then to improve our endowment," incoming JU President Tim Cost said. "So we've had a number of very good things happen to the university recently, we're very grateful for that, but this is the opportunity to go even further and invest for the future."
Here's how the money breaks down for those different areas:
- $19 million will go toward scholarships and academics
- $20 million is for the College of Health Sciences for a new 45,000-square-foot building
- $8.4 million for enhancing the campus and student life
- $17.6 million for athletics, including several new facilities
- $20 million for the school's endowment to build a "nest egg" for the future
