Free dental clinic opens on Westside

Community Health Outreach holds grand opening of Healing Hands Clinic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Community Health Outreach celebrated the grand opening Thursday of its new Healing Hands Clinic, the only free dental clinic for nearly 200,000 qualified, low-income adults in Duval County.

The clinic is at 5126 Timuquana Road, near the Jacksonville NAS Naval Complex. It was built largely through community fundraising and in-kind donations and has six dental stations, six primary-care medical exam rooms, a lab, a sterilization room and administrative offices.

Community Health Outreach expects the clinic to serve approximately 5,000 patients in 2015. At capacity, the clinic will be capable of serving as many as 20,000 low-income adult patients each year.

City Councilman Jim Love, other dignitaries and children from Grace Lutheran School attended Thursday's grand opening.

Duval County residents in need of the Healing Hands Clinic services can request an appointment on the Community Health Outreach website. Monetary donations can also be made on the website.

In addition to the new dental clinic, Community Health Outreach provides vital basic services at no cost to members of the community most in need. The organization provides primary medical care services through its Healing Hands Clinic; pregnancy, newborn and infant services through Baby Luv; and food assistance through The Lord's Pantry.

Last year, Community Health Outreach offered services to 37,000 Jacksonville residents.

Community Health Outreach does business as WestJax Outreach Inc., which was founded in 1988 by St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
