WINDERMERE, Fla. – A local teenager was arrested after throwing an out of control party inside a $5 million Isleworth mansion that he didn't even live in.
WKMG-TV reported the partygoers trashed the mansion causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage. The teen did not have permission to be in the vacant mansion, which is actually up for sale.
It happened on Deacon Circle in the Windermere neighborhood of Isleworth, one of Orange County's most exclusive neighborhoods.
Deputies were called to the private, gated community early Wednesday morning.
When they arrived, Isleworth security had already stopped more than a dozen cars trying to leave the nearly 9,000 square foot property as well as a path of destruction.
"It doesn't surprise me at all," said Diane Floros, a mom of two teenagers.
According to an Orange County Sheriff's Office report, Isleworth resident, Charles Harding, 19, called security around 9:40 Tuesday night. He told them "open list," meaning anyone is allowed on the property by advising the gate house of his name.
"It should raise some red flags because when you get a bunch of 19-year-olds together nothing good is going to happen," said Kelly Stutts, an Orlando mom.
A deputy identified at least a dozen teens at the party before calling the homeowner.
According to the report, she came rushing over to find someone had "punched holes into the walls, put beer bottles into the dry wall and spilled beer all over the floors and carpets."
Tables were also set up for games of beer pong. In all, the teens caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.
People we spoke with, including Stutts, say parents need to be more involved.
"And meet their friends and have them come to their house so that their child isn't always going out and creating this type of chaos," said Stutts.
Harding allegedly admitted to planning the party for a friend and knew it was a vacant house. According to the sheriff's report, he said there was only supposed to be 5 to 10 people, but it got out of control. He also said he is willing to pay for the damage, but the homeowner wants to press charges. Harding was arrested on charges of burglary and criminal mischief. He has since bonded out of jail.
